Go to the corner and don’t come out until you’ve learned not to step on people’s heads.
I don’t have a television…haven’t had one for years. I rely on a crappy local newspaper and the internet for my daily dose of media-induced depression. Sometimes I’ll check out what Yahoo has to say, other times I’ll go to CNN’s website, and on occasion I can find out what’s going on in the world through various forums I’m a member of.
It was from a forum where I learned about the topic for today. A member of the forum posted a YouTube video which showed a clip from a college basketball game. In the clip, player #1 steps in front of player #2 and is knocked down, flat on his back. As a result, player #2 gets a foul (for charging). This is where it should have ended. But noooooo! Player #2 walks toward player #1, defenseless, lying on his back, looks RIGHT AT HIM, picks up his right foot and, I shit you not, steps on his head!
Now, the ass-hat had tried to make it look as though he didn’t see what he was doing by looking up away from player #1 just before his foot makes contact with his face, but it was quite obviously done on purpose. Not only did he the moron look at player #1 lying on the ground, but the idiot picked up his foot higher on the face-stomp step than he did on his previous 2 or 3 steps.
You’ll notice I do not divulge the name of the two college teams playing. I also do not share with you the names of the players. This is because I feel as though it should never have been reported. What are we accomplishing by reporting this? Were it up to me, the only basketball the offender would be playing from now until his dying days would be on a public neighborhood court or in jail. While he did get ejected, so what. Where’s the real punishment? He’s not being paid to play since he’s in college, so he won’t loose part of his salary for not finishing a game. Being ejected in a college game is the same as sending him to the corner. Are you kidding me? This guy steps on another person’s face and all that happens is he’s ejected? Oh, and don’t even get me started about the high-five he gave a teammate of his as he was walking off the court to the locker room.
This is the problem with today…and it starts with pro athletes. These college players want to grow up to be like the pros they see playing on television…rich, successful in their sport, millions of fans, dog fighting houses (Michael Vick), cheating on their wives with 18 year old hotel workers (Kobe Bryant), you get the picture. Look at Burress…shoots himself, with his own gun mind you, in a crowded nightclub. I imagine the conversation going something like this…
Burress: “Hi sweet thing. I play football for the Giants. We won the Super Bowl last year in case you hadn’t heard.”
Sweet Thing: “Oh…Mr. Burress…I’m soooo impressed. You’re soooo manly.”
Burress: “I know you’re impressed. I even impress myself sometimes. Would you like to see something?” (as he reaches in his pants)
Sweet Thing: “Ooooh, yes I would.” (eyes getting wide)
Burress: “Well, I can’t show you my cock because it’s too small. So to compensate for that, here’s my gun.”
Sweet Thing: “Oh, well, um, what’s that for?”
Burress: “Well, although I’m so muscular and play pro football, I’m really a pussy and have to carry this around for protecBANG!!!
What sort of roll model is this for the youth of today coming up through college sports? We shouldn’t be reporting these incidents of serious misbehavior by pro athletes. What we should do is immediately kick them out of their sport, never to be allowed to return. When their team plays again everyone will notice that player’s absence and will know, since they hadn’t heard about him getting injured or dying, that he did something seriously wrong and got the boot…end of story.
These news people need to get their shit together. Many pro athletes do great things for their communities and are true role models for the youth of today. How about they report on those athletes and their accomplishments? Why do they have to show crap like one player stepping on another player’s head? It’s not helping…only hurting.
